What this work should change.
- A campaign structure aligned with objectives and controls
- A repeatable launch and optimisation process with reconciled reporting
Start with the audience and the buying problem
Display & Video 360 can support a programme that needs coordinated programmatic buying, differentiated inventory and deliberate control of campaign operations. Emerge begins with the business objective, audience, available creative and measurement readiness. A platform seat is useful only when those inputs support a campaign the team can run and evaluate.
We assess whether the proposed activity belongs in DV360, whether existing advertising tools are sufficient, and what access and commercial arrangements apply. There is no universal media-spend threshold that proves fit. Inventory, geography, buying approach, operating effort and the cost of measurement all influence the decision.
Build an advertiser structure that people can govern
The account design reflects brands, markets, currencies, permissions and commercial responsibilities. Campaigns, insertion orders and line items receive a naming convention that makes their purpose identifiable in both the platform and exported reports. We distinguish the reporting grouping from the level where budgets, bids and delivery settings are actually controlled.
A line item combines the relevant budget, bidding, targeting and creative decisions. The current platform has different line-item types for different media uses, so we validate the chosen inventory and configuration rather than assuming one template fits display, video and connected TV equally. API or bulk-upload automation is checked against the current supported fields before use.
Ownership is explicit: who can approve spend, who can alter targeting, who supplies creative and who can pause a campaign. Account access and advertiser settings are reviewed before launch, including inherited values that may have been appropriate for another market but not the new brief.
Make inventory and creative a joined plan
An audience strategy is not a list of every available segment. We translate the brief into a small number of testable audience and inventory hypotheses, with suitable exclusions and agreed brand-safety requirements. Open auction and deal-based buying are assessed for the actual inventory offered, commercial conditions and expected reporting visibility.
Creative specifications, landing pages and measurement requirements are agreed before trafficking. The launch checklist includes format compatibility, approvals, destination availability, click behaviour and language suitability. A premium placement cannot rescue a landing page that is slow, inaccessible or inconsistent with the advertisement’s promise.
We also plan how creative variants will be compared. Names and identifiers connect the intended message, audience and placement to the results. Without that relationship, a campaign can generate a large reporting file while leaving the team unable to tell which creative decision mattered.
Establish a conversion and measurement contract
Where Floodlight is used, the activity definitions and sharing arrangements are confirmed before bidding depends on them. A completed sale, qualified enquiry and shallow site interaction should not become interchangeable optimisation signals. We identify which events are meaningful enough to guide the campaign and which are diagnostic only.
Measurement planning includes lookback windows, observed versus modelled reporting, consent limitations and the business system used for reconciliation. View-through and click-through results are interpreted in their own context. They are not added together with every other platform’s attributed conversions and presented as unique customers.
A reporting model combines spend, delivery, creative and approved outcome data. It retains the campaign identifiers needed for investigation and distinguishes media cost from service or infrastructure charges according to the agreed commercial arrangement.
Launch in a controlled sequence
The launch rehearsal checks advertiser permissions, dates, budgets, pacing, creatives, landing pages and tracking receipt. We verify the intended status of every item and record the settings that require approval. A campaign that is configured correctly may still depend on platform or publisher review, which is reflected in the schedule.
Initial operation looks for delivery anomalies, unexpected costs, unsuitable placements and missing conversion signals. We agree the conditions that trigger a pause or adjustment and the person authorised to make that decision. Changes are logged with their rationale so a later performance review can distinguish a deliberate intervention from unexplained volatility.
Acceptance includes a reconciled first reporting cycle and a demonstration that the operating team can identify where budget is allocated, what is serving and which outcomes are being counted. A screenshot of an active campaign does not establish those controls.
Turn reporting into the next decision
The handover provides campaign architecture, trafficking checklists, reporting definitions and an optimisation cadence. Reviews focus on a defined decision: retain or change inventory, adjust creative, revise audience scope or investigate measurement quality. Tests have a documented hypothesis and an observation window suitable for the buying objective.
Emerge can continue as the managed operator or support an internal media team. Commercial scope is quoted against the advertiser, markets and workload, with product access and inventory confirmed for the engagement. The connected Campaign Manager 360 guide explains the measurement and trafficking layer when a separate cross-channel requirement exists.
