Adobe Analytics implementation and governance
Create a solution design reference, consistent event and variable standards, and validated Adobe Analytics reporting owned by the business.

Intended outcomes
What this work should change.
- A maintained measurement specification with clear variable meaning
- Validated reporting that can be traced to customer interactions
Reconnect the implementation to the questions
An Adobe Analytics estate can remain technically active long after its variable definitions stop reflecting the business. Teams reuse an eVar, add a new event or change a checkout without updating the measurement specification. Reports still load, but the meaning of a comparison becomes uncertain. Emerge restores the relationship between business questions, collection logic and analysis.
The engagement starts with the installed implementation and reporting estate. We review report suites, collection methods, tags, variables and the dashboards people actually use. A migration to a different collection approach is assessed as a deliberate workstream, rather than assumed to be necessary simply because the current setup needs repair.
Build a solution design reference that stays useful
The solution design reference records the business meaning of events and variables, their source, permitted values and reporting purpose. It is an implementation contract shared by analysts and developers. It should be specific enough to test a purchase or content interaction and readable enough for a business owner to challenge the definition.
We distinguish dimensions used to describe an interaction from events used to count an outcome. Persistence, allocation and expiration choices are reviewed where relevant to the variable design. A value intended to describe one page should not silently influence later events because the implementation retains it longer than the business expects.
Unused or conflicting definitions are classified before remediation. Some can be retired, while others need a transition plan because historical reports depend on them. We record when a definition changes so a newly accurate metric is not misrepresented as a sudden improvement in business performance.
Make the collection layer explicit
Adobe supports several implementation approaches, including Web SDK and existing AppMeasurement-based estates. Emerge assesses the appropriate method against the surrounding architecture, current dependencies and migration requirements. Product capability is verified against the actual configuration rather than inferred from a generic stack diagram.
A stable application data layer supplies the business context. We avoid relying on brittle visual selectors for critical outcomes when the application can emit an authoritative event. The implementation specifies when a transaction is complete, how product and currency fields are populated and which values must be cleared between interactions.
Consent and data minimisation are part of the collection contract. We inspect URLs, search terms, error messages and custom fields for accidental personal-data transmission. The chosen preference behaviour is verified through the actual outbound requests and receiving environment, with policy decisions owned by the organisation’s responsible team.
Validate the semantics, not only network traffic
A request reaching Adobe is necessary but does not prove the report is correct. We follow sample interactions from the application event through variable mapping and processing into the reporting view. The test pack includes navigation, repeated actions, failed submissions and the relevant ecommerce or subscription exceptions.
For commerce, transaction identifiers and values are compared with the order source. For content, interaction definitions are checked against the reader task. A media site may need to distinguish an article becoming visible from a meaningful engaged read; those are different events and require different interpretation.
Processing rules, classifications and derived metrics are reviewed alongside the collection code. An apparently correct browser request can still produce an unexpected report when a downstream rule changes the field or groups it incorrectly.
Build reports around a decision and a known scope
Analysis Workspace projects and other reporting outputs receive a clear audience and purpose. We define the segments, date rules and calculations behind headline numbers, then test them against representative records and known scenarios. Shared components have owners so several teams do not create incompatible versions of the same metric.
Cross-market or cross-brand analysis preserves differences in currency, time zone and collection coverage. A report should expose a gap in implementation rather than conceal it behind an aggregate total. Where business records are joined outside Adobe, the reconciliation model retains its own source and grain definitions.
Release without losing interpretability
Changes are grouped into reviewable releases with a before-state reference and a focused regression pack. We sequence changes that affect historical comparability and annotate the resulting reporting periods. If two collection methods temporarily coexist during migration, the plan explicitly prevents duplicate counting.
Acceptance includes the updated solution design reference, sample event evidence, reporting checks and a list of known limitations. The business owner should be able to explain what a key metric counts and what it excludes, not merely confirm that the dashboard looks familiar.
Handover assigns ownership of data-layer events, tag configuration, report-suite settings and shared reporting assets. A change to the website or app triggers the relevant measurement checks. Emerge can support ongoing governance, ensuring the specification evolves with the product rather than becoming a document left behind after launch.
